We divert disposable nappies from landfill

NappyChar uses a novel process turning bamboo disposable nappies into biochar to ensure they don't end up in landfill.

Municipal councils have ambitious sustainability goals with targets on diversion of waste from landfill.

With 6-12% of household residual waste being disposable nappies, diverting this waste stream from landfill is vital to councils achieving their sustainability goals.

NappyChar works with out sister company Free Nappies to incentivise childcare centres and families to adopt nappies made primarily of bamboo and plant material rather than plastic.

From there, we deliver free nappies to childcare centres and families and retrieve used nappies with which we create biochar.

Biochar is a useful soil amendment for increasing water and nutrient retention in soils.

The biochar we make is rigorously tested in independent environmental laboratories to ensure there are no contaminants or heavy metals present.

NappyChar's process helps councils achieve their sustainability goals, provides cost of living relief for families, and creates a biochar product that stores carbon for the long term and improves the quality of soil.

Our why

Biochar production at scale can store over three billion tonnes of carbon dioxide for thousands of years in the soil to help fight climate change. Disposable nappies make up close to 4% of global landfill and contribute over 1 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide every year in OECD countries.

Our mission is to help fight climate change by diverting disposable nappies from landfill and storing carbon in the soil instead.
